I found one of these guys this morning walking the dog. Tussilago farfara. It used be big news to find one as a kid, because it ment spring was close. The next thing to look for would be other signs in nature, what birds that hade emmigrated back and so on.. Since they leave Scandinavia for the colder months.
My grandma has this song, obviously it doen't rime in english since it is Finish,
but it says something like,
A half a month from the finch,
A little from the wagtail,
Not a day from sparrow.
It's to predict how much longer to summer.. When we see the sparrows in Sweden and Finland, it means summer is there. So therefore I always loved seing sparrows in the skies. I have one tattooed on my arm.
